– Scripture:
Blessed be GOD he heard me praying. He proved he’s on my side; I’ve thrown my lot in with him. Now I’m jumping for joy, and shouting and singing my thanks to him. GOD is all strength for his people, ample refuge for his chosen leader; Save your people and bless your heritage. Care for them; carry them like a good shepherd.
Psalm 28:6-9 MSG
– Reflection:
Trust No One
You see, we can’t trust any person completely. All “have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” So, waiting for complete trust means waiting for something that will never happen. We’re all broken and capable of wickedness even toward those we love most. God, however, is not. So, in Him and in Him only, should we put our trust. He calls us to be transparent and vulnerable with others, so we must. It might not always go well (at least from our perspectives). That’s okay. It will go well from God’s perspective; our obedience to Him always does. And He knows better than we do.
Every person who reads these messages, whom I know and care about, is someone I love. This passage from Psalms really challenges us to think about people; we are all just people with our own mindsets about how we see things. Trusting a person entirely means you are placing them in the realm of God. I can tell you that I am a good person, but I am not like Jesus at all. So, we can’t truly trust a person entirely.
Where do we go from here?
Next time you meet with a brother or sister and there are two or three, look around. Ask yourself, “Which of them do I trust more than God?” In that moment, remind yourself that you trust God and know what you must do. No more lies, no more pretending, no more posturing. Then, engage in conversations honestly and openly. This will help to build the start of a community that you can be a part of and want to be a part of. Always remember how that community was created and stay true to that creation.
Our Prayer for Today
“Father, we are grateful to be awakened by you today to continue the work before us. Now that we are awake, let’s focus on the tasks laid on our hearts. Each of us has different tasks to do, so let’s get to them. We will honor you throughout our day by doing the work you have placed in our hearts. Amen.”
